Mark L. Honsaker grew up in the small township of Howland, Ohio located in rural Northeast Ohio.  As a young man, he developed leadership skills and built a competitive fire through athletics where he was recognized as an outstanding basketball player in High School.  Though having many scholarship offers to play basketball, Mr. Honsaker's love was with The Ohio State University where he traded in his sneakers to concentrate on academics and his goal of becoming an outstanding lawyer.  After graduating in 1988 with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Sociology, Mr. Honsaker moved to Texas where he attended Texas School of Business to obtain his Paralegal Certification, graduating top in his class.  For the next three years, Mr. Honsaker was head paralegal for a small downtown Houston law firm gaining valuable experience and knowledge in the intricacies of handling legal matters from the initial consultation process through trial, and in some instances appeal.  In fact, Mr. Honsaker's research and writing skills proved instrumental in drafting the appellate brief overturning the trial court's decision in Washington v. Fort Bend ISD, a case involving the violation of a teacher's rights to due process.  His work as a paralegal only served to further convince him that the practice of law and helping individuals solve their legal problems was his calling in life.  Mr. Honsaker enrolled in South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas in 1992 to further develop the legal skills and abilities he continues to utilize to this day to assist his clients.

While at South Texas College of Law, Mr. Honsaker served as a Director of the Board of Advocates and Dean of his law fraternity.  Additionally, Mr. Honsaker won awards for his legal research and writing skills, as well as for his performances in both Mock Trial and Moot Court competitions.  Upon graduating from South Texas, Mr. Honsaker began working for a small personal injury, family, and business law firm honing his courtroom skills.  However, Mr. Honsaker soon realized he could best help his clients by making legal decisions and choices for their benefit rather than merely following marching orders.  Although involved with other businesses and firms since his legal career began, Mr. Honsaker's legal skills were primarily developed while operating his own law practice for nearly 16 years.  This enabled him to better serve his clients on a personal and individual level.  In fact, it was not unusual for him to answer the telephone on occasion and actually talk to you.  This was just another way of him staying in touch with his clients and providing them with the peace of mind that they were getting the personal service they deserved.

Mr. Honsaker practices law by the motto of "Commitment to Excellence" and that you treat people with the same respect, honesty, and dignity that you yourself would expect to receive.  He has now carried these traits over to Bill De La Garza & Associates, P.C. and we are excited to have him as a member of our legal team.  His nearly 22 years of legal experience is not only a great asset to the firm, but his "can do" attitude is a positive influence on all those who work with him.  While legal matters may sometimes seem routine to other lawyers, Mr. Honsaker recognizes that each case is more than likely the most important event that will ever happen in a client's life.  Quite likely, it may be the one and only time that individual seeks the assistance of a lawyer.  As such, Mr. Honsaker strives to ensure the experience is a positive one in which the client walks away knowing that they made a sound decision in their case based upon solid legal advice and having all options fully explained and openly discussed with them.  Mr. Honsaker has a proven track record in and out of the courtroom and is recognized by his peers as a true advocate for his clients who will fight for their rights and pour his heart and soul into every matter entrusted to him.  Mr. Honsaker has personally tried over 100 cases to the bench or jury during his legal career in the areas of personal injury, family, real estate, business, criminal, commercial, and general civil litigation.  He is well versed in all phases of the litigation process as well as in handling transactional matters for business and family clients.  Should you desire to have Mr. Honsaker review your legal matter, you may contact him through the firm switchboard or simply email him at mark@bdlg.com
